Mission, history, team

Engineers and scientists, built for the environment.

Blue Eco Line was founded in 2018 when three engineers came together around the goal of applying artificial intelligence to the protection of waterways. Today the team combines engineering, marine science, data science and institutional relations.

Mission

Stop plastic in rivers.

Blue Eco Line was founded to tackle real environmental problems through the most innovative technologies. We believe artificial intelligence, computer vision and automation can become concrete tools to generate a positive impact on society and the environment. Our mission is to protect rivers, seas and oceans from pollution, acting at the source of the problem and providing effective data and solutions to manage it.

At the same time, we want to transfer this technological know-how to other sectors, developing applications that improve sustainability, efficiency and safety. Innovating to solve today's challenges and build a more sustainable future is what drives everything we do.

Vision

Technology in the service of the planet.

We imagine a future where technology is one of the main tools for tackling the planet's great environmental and social challenges. We want to become a reference point in developing solutions based on artificial intelligence and automation, able to turn data and innovation into concrete action. Our goal is to contribute to a world where rivers, seas and oceans are free of pollution and where intelligent technologies help institutions, businesses and communities manage resources more sustainably.

We believe in innovation that does not merely observe problems but solves them, generating environmental, economic and social value for future generations.

The history

From 2018 to the field.

2018
Founding
Three engineers — Lorenzo Lubrano, Michael Mugnai and Camilla Cantiani — found Blue Eco Line with the goal of applying AI to the protection of waterways.
2019 — 2021
Research, development and acceleration
Years of R&D: first neural networks, barrier and conveyor-belt prototypes, field tests. Entry into the EIT Climate-KIC and Hubble programmes.
2020
UNESCO Oceanthon win
Blue Eco Line wins the first Italian hackathon dedicated to ocean protection, promoted by UNESCO.
2023
Recognition
Lorenzo Lubrano joins Forbes Under 30 Italy in the Social Impact category. Blue Eco Line is selected for Intesa Sanpaolo's Up2Stars.
2024
First River Cleaner installations
The first River Cleaner plant enters operation, on the San Rocco Canal in Grosseto. The Po SalvaMare project begins with ADBPO and the University of Padua.
2025
Multi-sector expansion
The vision platform extends to new areas: animal welfare and photovoltaics, with the first pilot projects.
2026
6 rivers in Tuscany
The largest River Eye monitoring programme begins: six rivers in Tuscany for ANBI Toscana and the Autorità Distrettuale dell'Appennino Settentrionale.
The team

Complementary skills.

Mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science, marine science, data science. Interdisciplinarity is a strength: every technical decision is read from different perspectives before it becomes product.

Why it matters

Interdisciplinarity is a strength

An environmental problem is not solved by technology alone. It takes engineers to build, scientists to validate, data scientists to interpret. Our team covers the entire chain, from sensor to decision.
